It is a type of steel with a carbon content of less than 2.11 percent, and has not been deliberately mixed with metal elements. It can also be called plain carbon steel or carbon steel. In addition to carbon, it has a small amount of silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus and other elements, the higher the carbon content, the more excellent hardness, strength is better, but the plasticity will be poor.

Steel plate usage
The smelting of carbon steel is usually carried out in converters and open hearth furnaces. Converter generally smelts ordinary carbon steel, while open hearth furnace can smelt various high-quality steels. The technology of oxygen top blown converter steelmaking has developed rapidly, and there is a trend to replace open hearth steelmaking. Injecting molten steel into the ingot mold yields various ingots. After being forged or rolled, steel ingots are processed into steel plates, steel strips, steel bars, and various sectional shapes. Carbon steel is generally used directly in the hot rolled state. When used in manufacturing tools and various machine parts, heat treatment is required according to the usage requirements; As for steel castings, most of them require heat treatment.
